Shannon Mchugh, LMSW

Shannon Mchugh is a trained EMDR and Brainspotting therapist licensed in the state of New York. She received her Masters' degree in Social Work from Fordham University in 2016. She earned a dual bachelor's degree in African and Latino Studies and Sociology from SUNY Oneonta in 2006. She currently is a Human Rights commissioner for her city and has traveled across the world pursuing the opportunity to assist others.

She has worked passionately in the human services field for the past eighteen years gaining skills in supporting a broad range of individuals in a variety of spaces. Shannon is excited to offer her skills set to young children, adolescents, adults, families and couples who are struggling with ADHD, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, school performance, relationship/marital issues, sex and intimacy issues and daily life stressors. With cultural competency and mindfulness, her approaches are rooted in those she serves being their best expert, meeting every individual where they are on their journey in a respectful, judgment-free, compassionate, strength-based space, supporting them on a path they can take joy in celebrating in. By paying homage to the fact that each of us is coping with navigating simply being human, together we can challenge and reframe many of the spaces we are faced with. We cannot always control the changes that have happened in our lives, but we can control how those changes impact us. Her goal is to be a trusted, unwavering, safe support on your journey.

Some therapeutic approaches that she commonly utilizes are Strength-based, Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Humanistic/Person-centered, Trauma-focused, and Dialectical Behavioral therapy, among others.  Shannon is trained in Brainspotting, EMDR ( eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and a Certified Prepare/Enrich Facilitator. She's also LGBTQIA+ affirmative and is poly and kink aware.
