Joanne earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal
Justice and her Master of Science in Education Degree (M.S. Ed.) in Counseling from Alfred
University. She is a certified School Counselor who is en route to completing her Advanced
Certificate in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) from Alfred University. She is also completing
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Certification Training (C-DBT) as well as Certified Clinical
Trauma Professional Training (CCTP/CCTP-II).
Joanne is passionate about supporting young people and adults in navigating the far-reaching
effects of trauma. She believes that one of the most powerful tools in the healing process is
having the knowledge and language to understand both the implicit and explicit effects of trauma
on physical and psychological development. Her approach is culturally-responsive, highly
empathetic and empowering with the goal of building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients.
She employs a compassionate, strengths-based approach to building self-esteem and establishing
concrete coping skills to assist clients in promoting resilience, life-enhancing outcomes and
Joanne has experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, interpersonal
relationships, life transitions and trauma-related concerns across the lifespan utilizing an eclectic
approach that includes, but is not limited to, mindfulness-based cognitive behavior therapy, CBT,
DBT and Internal Family Systems. She is bilingual. She speaks English and Spanish.
